How Monks of Ethos sells made-to-measure Khadi and Linen clothing online, with a shirt designer that sizes from height and weight
Monks of Ethos makes handcrafted Khadi and pure Linen shirts, pants, kurtas and jackets, each cut and sewn to the buyer's own height and weight. We designed and built their online store with a visual shirt designer: customers pick a fabric, choose collar, pocket, placket, buttons, sleeve and cuff, back and bottom styles, and get sleeve and shirt length worked out automatically from their height - or enter their own body or shirt measurements.
The Challenge
- Every garment is made to order, so a normal size-only online store could not capture what the workshop needs to cut and sew
- Customers buying online cannot be measured in person, yet the fit has to be right first time
- The brand sells to buyers in the United States and abroad, who think in inches and lbs as well as cm and kg
- Each shirt can be styled many ways (collar, pocket, placket, buttons, sleeve & cuff, back, bottom) and all of it must reach production without mistakes
- The site had to tell a slow-fashion, handmade story and justify a premium price, not look like a fast-fashion shop
Our Solution
- A custom e-commerce website for four categories: Shirt, Pants, Kurta and Jacket, in Khadi and 100% pure Linen
- "Design a Shirt" flow: browse the fabric collection with colour, pattern and price filters, then customise the chosen fabric
- Fit from height and weight: customers pick a size (XS to 7XL), height (124-214 cm) and weight (40-160 kg); sleeve length and shirt length are calculated automatically and shown in inches and cm
- Visual shirt designer with clickable hotspots for Collar, Pocket, Placket, Buttons, Sleeve & Cuff, Back and Bottom, each opening a panel of illustrated style options
- Two sizing methods: Standard Sizing from body type, or Custom Sizing with Measure Body / Measure Shirt forms (neck, chest, stomach, hips, shirt length and more) in cm or inches, saved as a named profile
- Body type, body shape, shoulder type, fit and shirt style captured with every order, plus special notes for the tailor
- Fabric code and SKU on every product, so each order maps straight to the workshop's fabric stock
- Customer accounts, cart, checkout, delivery estimates and policy pages; brand story pages for the Khadi process, ethos and craft
The Results
- Customers can design and order a made-to-measure shirt online, with no store visit or tailor appointment
- Sleeve and shirt length come from height automatically, so most buyers never need a tape measure
- Every order reaches production with the full style and measurement details, so nothing is lost or retyped
- Buyers in the US and abroad can shop in inches / lbs or cm / kg
- The site carries the brand's handmade, slow-fashion story from the home page to checkout
